Legalizing Marijuana is proving to not be the end of the world as some who are against it prophesized.  In fact, studies are showing that crime is down, DUII’s are down, access by the under 21 crowd is down. NJ Marijuana Legalization- Pot for Pot Holes

Big movement on New Jersey marijuana legalization front. In 2014, duplicate bills to legalize possession and personal use of small amounts of marijuana for persons age 21 and over were introduced into both the Senate and Assembly. Senate Bill 1896, better known as the Pot-for-Pot Holes Bill because the bulk of tax revenue generated will go to fix roads, was introduced in March and sponsored by Senator Nicholas Scutari (District 22). Shortly following in May, Assembly representatives Reed Gusciora (District 15) and Linda Stender (District 22) sponsored a duplicate bill for the Assembly, Assembly Bill 3094. The new proposed bill goes far beyond the original proposed bill for NJ marijuana legalization in March, Assembly Bill 2842, which sought to put on the ballot for voters the legalization of possession of an ounce or less of marijuana, but provided no regulation of retail sales of marijuana or allow home cultivation of marijuana. Senator Scutari’s bill goes much further. S1896 calls for legalization of up to an ounce of marijuana, cultivation of up to 6 plants (3 mature), and firmly outlines plans for retail sale,  taxation, and tracking. The state of New Jersey will look to implement a seed to sale tracking system of cannabis for their legal marijuana similar to the model used in Colorado and Washington.
